Welcome Message

On behalf of the Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, I would like to warmly invite you to attend the Second Colloquium on Chronic Illness Care which will be held on 8-10 July 2020 in Hong Kong.

The escalating burden of chronic illnesses arising from rapid population ageing has become a major health care challenge in Hong Kong and worldwide. In order to pool the efforts of health care professionals from around the globe to address this challenge, our School organised the Sixth Pan-Pacific Nursing Conference and First Colloquium on Chronic Illness Care in 2016, which was overwhelmingly participated by more than 500 health and social care delegates from over 20 countries.

With the increasing prevalence of complex chronic illnesses, there is a pressing need for research- and practice-based innovations to optimise chronic illness care, and to effectively reduce the related burdens on clients and health care systems. This second colloquium, themed ‘Driving Innovations and Advancing Science in Chronic Illness Care’, aims to provide an international multidisciplinary platform for health care providers, academics and researchers to share their visions and passions for advancing chronic illness care through impactful research and innovations. Internationally renowned scholars and experts will be invited as keynote speakers to share their insightful views and experiences in chronic illness care. Following the colloquium, professional workshops will be organised to equip participants with knowledge and skills in interpreting, planning and conducting systematic reviews.

What make this colloquium so special is that it is one of our key initiatives to celebrate the first-ever International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife in 2020. The World Health Organisation has recently made this announcement to recognise the tremendous contributions of nurses and midwives to global health, and to urge world leaders to make increased investments to strengthen the workforce and advance nursing science for better health outcomes.

The colloquium is indeed a valuable opportunity for local and overseas colleagues to build networks and explore collaborations while celebrating this memorable year. Let us work together to facilitate transformational development of chronic illness care for the health and well-being of individuals with chronic illnesses and all mankind.

Please come and join us in the Second Colloquium on Chronic Illness Care.

We look forward to seeing you at the colloquium in July 2020.
